Huh?

The other day, I noticed this sock in my trashcan beside my bed.

I hadn't remembered throwing away this red sock. So out of curiosity, I picked it up.

 There was something in it.

This is what I found inside.  A wod of blue tape.

Upon unwrapping, I find a little lego guy.

Huh?
I wonder, what did this little lego guy do to be wrapped in tape, put in a sock and thrown in the trash.

And I'm wondering who did this to him?

Questions, I may never know the answer to...in a house of boys like mine.

The New Do!

Let M.E. just say, its never a dull moment around here.

On Thursday night, our evening was quite and normal until LG got out of the shower.

Buddy comes to M.E. and says, "Mom this is serious"

I didn't know what to think but needless-to-say, LG got a disposable razor that was on the shower rack and decided to use it.

This resulted in an anti-mohawk down the center of his head.  Amazingly he didn't cut himself, but he did manage to remove all the hair - to the scalp. Oh my!

Pantic, sorrow, embarrassment all these things happened simultaneously.  He had no idea what he had done, because he couldn't see it.  So the Man took a picture and showed it to him.

He said, "oh my, that's my head".

We let him go to bed, trying to figure out our plan.

We let him skip school on Friday.  The comb over wouldn't cover it.

We decided to shave his head.

Yep! The gorgeous locks are gone.

The Man sets up shop in the driveway. And I have to say the Man was somewhat excited to show off his clipper skills.
 BEFORE: The anti-mohawk.
Buddy is nervous for him.  And frankly so was I.
You know, Buddy prides himself on his cool hair and he was upset for LG.
LG was well, LG and just rolled with it.
His prospective on life and everything is his own and quite unique, we could all benefit from being more like him.
It took awhile and LG was having a hard time sitting still. The Man was being a perfectionist and taking way too much hair off for M.E., but I understand his point in trying to blend it.
AFTER: Little Flat Top Boy!

But in the end, we now have a cute little flat top LG, who couldn't be prouder of his NEW DO!

Celebrations

On Sunday before and after the big championship baseball game, I had some celebrations to attend.

The gifts.  Okay, I just had to take pictures of my wrapping.  I don't spend hours on pinterest for nothing.   The little on is obviously a stack of books for Amanda and the bigger on a print for baby N.

Amanda was our youth director for about 6 months last year while working on her phD.
We hit it off immediately and have become super close.  She graduated this week and is now a Doctor. WooHoo!  I am so happy for her. And she has a job lined up in southern Mississippi. Kinda of sad that we won't be able to meet once a week at Whole Foods for lunch, but super happy that she'll be teaching and doing what she's worked so hard to do.  And no she is not wearing an OSU cheerleading outfit --its an apron. Anyhow, love her and glad to help her celebrate.

Meanwhile Buddy just started his game, so I only stay about 15 minutes, then was off.

After the game and supper, I head up to church with LG to celebrate Baby N's baptism.

Love these guys. We have been friends since like our 3rd month living in Oklahoma.  They are both super involved with the youth program and have helped us with our boys and the Babe being born and we have tried to help them as well.
Adam is being super silly in this picture because he is like 18" taller than Carrie.

Baby N and her Godmother Esther. Love this two.

Baby N's big sister A has been LG's sidekick since the Fish Class. They are still great friends.
LG took the camera and got several pictures, mostly of the ceiling and floor, but he did manage this one of M.E.  and the one below of the middle sister J.

When Baby N was born, I teased Adam and Carrie that we could do a bundle deal on the dalry if we wanted to arrange the marriages of our three boys and their three girls - as they are all the same distance in age apart.  No deal yet!
What a great day!

Baseball Championship

So after we warmed up on Saturday, we had the championship game on Sunday!

Let M.E. just say. What. A. Game!

I missed the first inning, that'll be another post. End of first we were up 4 to 2.
So in the top of the 2nd we hold them to zero runs. Then we get up and score 1 - going up 5 to 2.

In the top of the third we managed 2 outs right away then walks and a hit to load the bases.  Yikes. We were all so nervous, but then strike 3 and all runners were stranded.  Yay!

Bottom of the third, we managed one run. Going up 6 - 2.
Buddy is swinging this season and its wonderful.  He actually managed to hit one on the ground up the gut, but got out a 1st. He was extremely upset with himself, but it was the best contact he's made with the ball all year.  He's been getting under the ball for pop flies.
Top of the fourth they managed two more runs to go to 6 - 4.  In the bottom, they hold us to no runs. Yikes.  We go into the fifth and final inning we need to hold them.

We immediately get an out - pictured above of Buddy playing first. There's a walk, runner steals 2nd. Then another walk runners at 2nd and 1st.  Then an out.

So we have 2 outs, tying run on 2nd.
There was a drop ball on 3rd strike, player tries to steal 1st. Catcher throws to Buddy it goes over his head and glove by about 3 inches.  Right field doesn't back him up, so he has to chase the ball down and runner at 3rd scores.

Buddy is upset. Very upset.
There's a walk and bases are load.
Buddy's trying to pull himself together and get back in the game.
Tying run at 3rd with 2 outs. Little dribble up the baseline.  Buddy fields it tags the bag - game over. We win 6 -5.

 Post game waiting for trophies.

Tournament Winners! Go Indians Go!

Buddy and Benzo having a little fun with their trophies.

I love baseball!

It's COLD!

Friday night was the beginning of a weekend long baseball tournament.  We were pretty excited, but the weather was not great.  At game time it was blowing 15 with gust to 30mph. And it was cold.

I didn't stay but about an hour. I went to see Jewel with the Lewallens. I was glad I got to leave.

On Saturday, the weather wasn't much improved, so when the Man and Buddy got home, it was time for hot chocolate.

Yummy.  The baseball team won both games Friday night and again on Saturday.  Buddy even got to pitch.  Wow!

Babe loved the hot chocolate. I don't think he had every had any before.
His arms is healing, but we are having to keep it wrapped so he doesn't scratch it.  He's really bad about  that.
Who knew we would be drinking hot chocolate in Oklahoma in the month of May. Seriously?

One Room Schoolhouse

Last week Buddy's class continued their study of Oklahoma State history by taking a field trip to a One Room Schoolhouse at Rose Hill.
The weather was perfect and the day gorgeous. I was blessed Babe was well enough for school, so I could attend.  I told a couple people that my church back home looks similar to this, only a little bigger and they didn't understand M.E. I was like when I go to church in KY its in a building just like this.  Some were shocked. Haha.

Miss Rupp was great. Very strict and thorough.  She was in character the entire time and really taught the kiddos what school would have been like back then in 1910.

There's Buddy in his overalls. He looked so handsome with his straw hat.

He normally doesn't like getting his picture took, but he was so happy and having fun.  I just love his expression.
They practiced handwriting with ink wells and blotting paper. They practiced math on chalkboards and then at the end of the day they had a spelling bee.  Buddy had to sit down after misspelling "alfalfa" (he added a 'ph' to it)

Here he is at lunch.  I love the gaggle of girls in the back all huddled up.
They had such a wonderful experience and fantastic day.

Update on Babe

Life really hasn't slowed down much since the burn, but things are okay.

On Saturday, he got a visit from his preschool teachers.  They are such darlings for coming over to visit.  They brought him a big balloon and cookies and he kept asking, "is it my birthday?".  So funny. He has no idea how badly he was hurt or the consequences.  He just goes right on.

On Monday, we saw the doctor again and there were three little spots about a half centimeter each that have worsen -- the doctor considered to be 3rd degree. If there is any scarring, these will be the spots.  However, they are small and everything should heal fine.   The back of his hand looked worse as well as it has now all busted open and exposed 2nd degree.

With that said, the sides of his arm were already growing new skin. woohoo!

He has enjoyed his sink baths and when I lay him on the counter to wash his hair.  He says, Lets get a hair cut.  It reminds him of going to Dana's. She has spoilt all my boys by washing their hair before cuts.

On Tuesday, he began itching.  Good sign of healing, but bad for Babe.   The Man and I were up most of the night, well mostly M.E., having to physically restrain Babe from ripping off his bandages to scratch his new baby skin.

I was on the phone with the burn center (once at 4 AM and again at 9 AM) because it wasn't going to well. He was screaming from the itching and I had no idea what to do. Finally the later phone called got M.E. a great nurse, who told M.E. to unwrap it, put lotion on the new skin, rewrap and give him a dose of Benedryl.  Done. and it helped so much. He actually slept yesterday from 9 AM to 11:30.

I wound up unwrapping applying lotion and rewrapping 4 times yesterday. From the elbow to about an one and half inches from the wrist (the size of my hand), there is a brand new complete layer of skin.  And I can see why it was itching him, because when I put lotion on it felt like sandpaper. Poor guy.  With the bandages still on and the healing pad, it just doesn't get any air or moisture.

And it was another long night last night.  Even with pain medicine and Benedryl, he itched and dug at his bandages.  The Man and I switched off and on last night to keep him from ripping them off and I managed a few hours of sleep. The Man too!

It will likely be another long day today. We see the doctor tomorrow and the skin on his hand should be healed enough to expose some of the arm - if not all- and it won't be so itchy.

Other than that we are great.  He has received lot of cards and visitors.  I think we are on our third batch of chocolate chip cookies.  You know, I'm not complaining about that.

Thank you to everyone for the well wishes, prayers and thoughts.  We are truly blessed it wasn't worse and that the recovery is going quickly.
