First Wrestling Tournament

Like father, like son.

Well, I will say this - Buddy competed in his first wrestling tournament on Saturday and it was one of the most painful events I've watched him experience. Am I being dramatic? the Man would say yes, but I will stand by my statement and say it was hard to watch and emotional.  Why?
Little boys wrestling around is crazy.  Every muscle in their little bodies is flexed as they are fighting to not get pinned by one another.  Emotionally they are so focused and engaged in the moment that they exhaust themselves to tears.
Buddy came up off the mat shaking and crying. I could hardly stand it.  He would go back for more and I would have to get out of my seat and run down to the mat.  Yes, I rushed the mat, ready to pull him into my arms and take him home.  The Man however prevented this and got Buddy and myself calmed down.

Apparently our experience was not uncommon.  My friend Heidi was sitting with M.E. ( her son is in red in the photo above) She said she and her son both were just as stressed as Buddy and I, but it gets better.  Hmm. I don't know if there'll be a next time.

Buddy has agreed to continue wrestling practice but says he will not compete again, ever.  But after talking to his friend he says he might do a tournament next year.  Will I be going?  Probably not, I don't think I'll be able to take it. Neither of us were ready for this. We went into it completely unaware of the intensity of competing in the sport - a sport I know little about.  We'll have to wait and see.

Practicing with the camera

I decided to learn how to use the continous shooting function on my camera so I had a little photo shoot with Babe.
Continous as in holding down the shutter and letting it repeated snap photos.  Should had better lighting though.

He is chewing on my lens cap and he's on the move.

The Man just couldn't stand it....

that I had a cool iPhone and he didn't.
No really he has been on the waiting list at work for an iPhone for some time now and it finally came through this week.

So its been dueling iPhones around here all week.

I think we (as in the entire family) is a little bit infatuated.

Happy Gaming.

I had lunch duty this week and its always so fun.  Buddy especially loves it because he gets ice cream on the days I'm there.  Used the ol iphone to snap a photo.
Isn't he too handsome!

Bargain

I just got some deals at Target for $25. We had a gift card that I decided to use today to get Babe a sleeper or two. What I discovered was a lot of clothes on sale and some for $1.

A sweater for Babe next year
A sweater and long sleeve t-shirt for LG
A long sleeve "little brother" onsie for Babe
Two fleece sleepers for Babe
And two pairs of sweatpants for Babe
All for $25.
That's an average $3 per item. Awesome.

Love a bargain.
And I'm thinking if altering those cheap sweat pants to make them cuter.

Happy Tuesday!

Art Project #1

One of my 27 goals for 2011 is to do an art project with the boys at least once a month.  A reasonable goal, I think.  So last week we painted.
I practiced using a new setting I discovered on my camera for indoor picture taking and continuous photo taking.

Buddy is just as serious about his crafting and art creating as he is in sports.

I scored these little wooden easels at Micheals for 50% off.  I then cut up LG's Harry Potter lego box to rest their papers against.

LG surprisingly liked painting more than I thought he would, although he just scribbled.

Buddy painted a cute little house with a pond and a tree.  I totally forgot to get a picture of it though.

Too Sweet

This is really too sweet for words.
Babe always tends to fall asleep like this.

I think Daddy is a pleased as punch for him to sleep like this.

It really is too sweet.

Crafty Day

I got crafty today and I couldn't be happier about it.
Our church is planning a mission to Haiti next month so several members have been making little dresses for Haitian girls. I couldn't resist the need to get involved, so today with some old scrap fabric (I have no idea where it came from) and a simple handmade pattern (I received from church), I put the Man in charge of the boys and started ironing, cutting and sewing. And within an hour and a half I made this.

Too cute, I know. LG tried it on for ME, but he didn't like it so I thought it best to not take his picture.
And while working with a pattern something I've never done before, I discovered a pin cushion would be useful. So instead of purchasing one, I decided to make one and with the help of the Internet I made this adorable pin cushion.

My embroidering lacks polish but I still thinks it's too cute and perfect.
I'll be making two more dresses this week and on Friday a couple of friends and I are hosting a sewing circle at church to make more dresses. I'm 'sew' excited.
Any of you been crafting? I'd love to see what you've made!

Snow Day

Sleet and snow arrived about 9:30 last night and very slowly covered everything.

We have about 1 to 2 inches of snow on top of a layer of sleet.
School was cancelled for the boys for the first since - well I'm sure they've ever had a snow day because we usually do late starts.
So Buddy was excited to get out and enjoy it.

Thanks Nana and Grandpa for mailing us his snow boots last week - without them he'd probably be out there in house shoes.

Happy Snow Day!

Baby Jake

Buddy and I got to babysitter on of LG's friends little brother last week.  All the kids in LGs class were invited to school for a woodworking workshop along with their Daddy's.  His best friends little brother needed a babysitter so Buddy and I volunteered.
He recently turned 1.

Babe was absolutely facsinated by him.

He kept touching him and pulling on him and trying to play with him.  It was so awesome.

Not so sure Baby Jake like the attention but he hung in there and managed not to cry until about an hour in.

It was certainly interesting and I feel for anyone who has twins. oh my.

Basketball

Buddy has been burning it up on the basketball court.
He's pretty aggressive on the court.  And has a tendency to be a ball hog.
He's been known to take shoots from 20 feet out. And then have to run laps in practice.
He almost always guards the person with the ball, not his man.
But he's learning to use the back board and posting up.

He's having a blast and loving every minute of it.

He scored 18 points in one game - his personal best.
Go Buddy Go!

FISH

Got behind this truck the other day taking LG to school.  It just totally cracked M.E. up.
Advertising budget of say $2 spent on that one.

PS - We were stopped at a red light, I didn't take a photo while driving.

What we are up to..........

I had the best laid plans to blog more... but that hasn't happen and here's the excuse.
All my boys have been sick.
Buddy missed school on Monday and Tuesday last week with a high fever, no other symptoms.  (11 kids were also out in his class) He went to school the rest of the week, but came home each day with a low grade fever, extremely tired and not much of an appetite.
On Friday I took him to the doctor for blood work, I am a paranoid mother, and his blood work was fine.
He played in his basketball game Saturday, took a big fall and hit his head really hard. He would later throw up three times, but it was mostly drainage, so we are thinking the two were unrelated, but needless-to-say. I was worried.
He was fine yesterday and has returned to school this morning. Hopefully all is well with him.

LG has had a serious case of allergies starting on Tuesday at wrestling and has just felt crummy. I ran out of allergy medicine on Thursday so he didn't rest well at all in the night.  He made the trip to the doctor with Buddy on Friday and got a new prescription for his expectant.
That night (Friday) after supper he had some sort of allergic reaction to something and his eyes began to swell and nearly swelled shut.  The Man and I were scared.  He's never physically, outwardly reacted to something like this.  The doctor's nurse, whom I called, said Benedryl.  So the Man ran to the store and got some and within a few hours his eyes were puffy and red but the swelling was down.
This would happen again on Saturday and again yesterday - along with a fever.
However yesterday's reaction was so bad, I got really scared his eyes were going to be completely shut. They were so swollen the top and bottom lids. I took a pic but I will not show you because its so scary.
I rushed him to the allergist, where they are as puzzled as we are as to why this is happening.  They took a lot of blood for some blood work and LG was a champ.  He was feverish and miserable, but he was a real trooper, as was Buddy who had to hold Babe the entire time.   Today, LG is resting his eyes are red but not swollen and his fever is low.
Babe, got his fever on Friday and still has it.  He has so much drainage its crazy.  He has refused solids up until last night and ate a half a jar of baby food.  He is wanting to nurse continuously but I don't have the milk I had 3 months ago and his nose is so stuffy, he has a hard time of it.  Fortunately he's been pretty happy, miserable, but not screaming.  Thank goodness.  He made a trip to the doctor yesterday as well and all his test came back negative. phew!
I've went through an entire bottle of children's motrin, but Babe does seem better today. Thank goodness!

As I was talking to a nurse at the allergy clinic - who has 3 boys all under 3 years (a set of 18 month twins, yikes) - things could be much, much worse and its just a virus.

Babe has a follow up tomorrow with the doctor to check his lungs.
LG has a follow up with the allergist on Feb. 3 to get the results of his blood work.
Buddy should be all good.

Hope your weekend was healthy, but with the flu going around at our school I'm not so sure, we are out of the woods yet!

You know....

Your kids watch too much tv when they see this

as you are cleaning the bath tub and say, "wow, kaboom fantastic- you buy this mom?"

1) LG can't read
2) KaBoom Fantastic? After looking at the can, I see it's Foam-tactic.
3) it doesn't work and it will be my first and last can.
4) my son watches too much tv.

Christmas Vacation part 3 - Great Wolf Lodge

Grandpa and Nana were very generous and took all of us to the Great Wolf Lodge for one night of indoor swimming fun.
The boys had a blast.
The Man and Babe in the wave pool.  I really wish I'd taken a picture of the whole set up.  It was amazing. Its huge like an arena huge with a wave pool, kiddie land, several water slides and other various pools.  Its pretty amazing.

Babe and I hung out in our suite mostly.

He didn't seem to mind.

He was being so funny.

The sponge bob pajama were from mamaw for Christmas.  The boys think they're awesome on him.

The bigger boys fresh out of the pool ready to head home.

I think he had fun.

One more shot from the wave pool.

Christmas Vacation Part 2

Christmas Morning
Santa brought Babe some cute little shoes.

Santa brought LG some Harry Potter Legos. He loved them.

Buddy got Madden NFL 11 for the wii.  He was very excited.

Later in the morning, Grandpa helped LG put together his gift from them - a Handy Mandy work bench.

Buddy and M.E. played his new lego game, which is actually pretty fun to play.

Babe looks guilty, wonder what he was getting into.

It also snowed while we were there.

Babe's first snow.

Who is this handsome guy?
